The Illustrated Dictionary Project
The purpose of the Illustrated Dictionary Project is to provide each 2nd and/or 3rd grade student with their own copy of a special dictionary called The Illustrated Dictionary of Everyday Things. This dictionary will give students a STOREHOUSE of “everyday” words to draw from when reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This can be a useful addition to your literacy center, bell work, teacher read aloud, or to be taken home for the students’ at-home library. If you want to have your students use it at school, there are supplementary materials (see below). Then at the end of the year, they can take it home. The Book of Knowledge Learning Log and Activity Book can also be used with the dictionary at school or home to activate and revisit new vocabulary. This could also become a parent-involvement project.
